Don't you think it is a serious breach.?
A mother carried a baby full term only to find out the baby wasn't hers.? What about the actual biological parents of the now born child.? What about the child itself when it grows old enough to understand.? They all now have a pretty serious situation to deal with.? This is not a small error. This is a significant breach in standards that will require serious analysis and serious efforts to rectify the failure in standards.
Lets use an analogy that most can understand to get the message across.... if a single individual was to pass away in a workplace accident....would it be acceptable for the employer to simply state "it was just an accident, an oversight, and hardly reason to be overly concerned or to fast track change"...?
I would suggest that any employer who responded to a serious workplace accident in that way, would find themselves in very serious trouble by the state and federal worksafe regulator.
The more appropriate response from the employer would be to undertake a thorough root cause analysis and then implement serious change in order to ensure that the "accident" does not happen again.
Likewise, this incident with Monash IVF has and will continue to impact many lives in a profound and unjust way for many years to come. This IVF incident is significant and serious.......and if a new technology exists which can go a long way to prevent this type of incident from happening again, then it becomes the obligation of those involved (Monash, State and Federal regulators, Incident Investigators, etc, etc) to enable use of this technology as a measure of corrective action.
Now let's be clear here, we are all speculating....as we do not have the whole story....but lets not play down the seriousness of this situation....or the serious need for corrective action in order to mitigate similar future events.
I am not saying that Felix is the only solution here....i am saying that Felix can be a potential solution.....and if an investigation finds that Felix can reduce the risk of this happening again.....then implementing Felix as corrective action is the right course of action.
