Spot on is your post, as is that of Anode1.
We need to rebuild, and we are now doing so. It will take time, but we are so much better placed than we were last time in those dark years of 2018-2019. Far more developed science, a whole new field of clean energy, levels of nano-technology where our technology can be applied, so many cases in life sciences where its use is popping up (see JandB85's series of posts on sundry scientific papers that he has found).
Good grounds for quiet optimism.
