My understanding is Sometimes it does not upscale like it should from column tests , best to do a small heap leach first and see how it goes , quality of water , can be an issue , also base metals like Copper can load the carbon if present
Then there are optimistic pricings used often for moving a BCM of dirt not a specific heap leach issue though ie look at CAI .
