IMHO, I believe the people will revolt should China decide to go that way. It's not 1941 anymore and people have changed their ideals and have much more power than they did in the past, It is not North Korea. A hint of a world war would be rejected by the people of China, the country is not the communist country of the past, that would just lay down and do nothing. Their would be a revolt, the Chinese people have experienced a different way of life compared to what it was 30+ years ago and are in some ways less controlled than what we are in the west in a lot of things, especially business.
I do spend a bit of time in SEA in communist countries and find that the people have adapted to this way of life and are enjoying their new western type freedom, they want the free trade, they want to be more like the west, in saying that I believe they are also losing a lot of their culture and tradition because of it, which I truly respect, the younger generation are more in a west type mentality especially in the schools and universities of the big cities.
