When market gets a rout like this most of the initial gold selling is about covering margin calls and general liquidity stress. I'd be willing to bet the house gold outperforms equities again once the dust settles. Because this is a policy driven crash that involves a lot of structural changes there's a lot of uncertainty about the future and who will benefit and who won't, so as a safe haven store of value gold looks like a good option. I personally think medium term gold has a lot of upside for this reason.
