Thanks heaps for the tip re the "Inside China Business" YouTube Channel, it looks excellent and is just what I've been looking for. I've been aware of the disconnect with the news flow regarding China for some time, but have struggled to find reliable commentary. The internet is full of opinion, but much of it is coloured by unspoken presuppositions formed from a distance. I find it really difficult to filter out the bias, and noise. A boots on the ground perspective is invaluable.
My dad used to travel to China often for business and regularly brought back stories of how rapidly they were advancing. However, his perspective rarely seemed to line up with what I was reading in western media. I have spent time in the US, and at the risk of generalising, there can be a tendency for those who live there to become somewhat insulated from what is happening elsewhere in the world.
I suspect that confidence in US supremacy, as expressed by Trump and those who follow him, may be based on an outdated and inaccurate perspective.
