why rising coal prices are good for fertiliser

Hyperinflating coal prices are likely to drive increased investment into energy based solutions from biomass. In other words crops wastes left after grain is harvested can also be harvested and removed from fields for exploitation as feedstock for static electricity generation (eg Copenhagen currently uses a large percentage of the Denamrk's annual crop waste production to fire turbines and generate electricity). It can be used for syngas and also cellulosic ethanol production (google Iogen in Canada).

And of course once you begin to remove not only grain but the remaining crop stubbles you are likely to double demand for some crop nutrients. The main one being potash but also in some significance phosphate.

The fertilizer sector is going to see renewed gains in the demand base that will take years perhaps decades to rectify. Bottom drawer job these fertilizer junior stocks.
