Interesting mention of China and its military protection of its energy/resource centres.
It is a little known fact that China has been using its excess $US to purchase islands around the Phillipines and install military bases over the past 2 years or so.
With the action of some VERY large players staking out the land in the Phillies it should be considered as an impending boom in the Phillipines resource sector. From memory they have the 4th largest resource base in the world and have seen a complete stop in new mining for the past 30 years.
I am going to Olongapo in the next couple of weeks as I have heard from some locals that they are looking at building a huge refinery just outside of the city and that the airport is being upgraded to replace Clarke Air base as the main cargo portal. Could be some very interesting discoveries and changes in the Phillipines over the next couple of years.
