The big issue facing Aus given Trump Government tearing up our US/Aus Free Trade Agreement not to mention the US reneging on other international agreements , simply because they are "bad deals" for America is that whether we can rely in ANZUS, AUKUS or any such Aus National Security agreements/understandings/expectations?
IMO no so we should simply pull out a finer and declare Aus neutral and heads down /bums up working to being self sufficient National Security-wise.
Our blindly backing of the USA has simply made us a Chinese target We now trip about a few Chinese war ships circumnavigation Aus BUT we dont trip about Aus Warships & Subs following US warship flotillas through a contested Taiwan Strait or ghosting Chinese national waters
IMO either we accept Chinese warshipa in our region OR we keep our Warships & Subs out of the Chinese region ...if its good for the goose, then its good for the gander (fairness & equity principle)
