another thing to note is that in the US most specialised operators in nuclear reactors are ex-Navy, particular having operated nuclear submarines. Which, as we know, we have some on order. Building capability operating these subs then carrying over that expertise into a nuclear plant.
This video is interesting and provides an insight of the more informed environmentalist/green energy perception of nuclear from a political front:
I generally agree with the sentiment expressed. However one advocation for local use in Australia is recycling the coal plants with an SMR. I'm not exactly convinced replicated generation capacity (of solar/wind/etc) and battery storage across the country is the best method to ensure consistency (Saul does mention load sharing as well based on peak periods). However many populated parts of the rest of the world doesn't have our luxury of space. They discuss Singapore's solar project in the NT of which an electric pipe is sending that energy over to Singapore. Our ability to export uranium without being hindered by these groups is a necessity for the rest of the world utilising cheaper (as a result of a larger provisioned market), more effective forms of powering themselves.
One interesting statement to note: Saul states the idea of "baseload" energy is no longer relevant.
