Todays EMS announcement says they are making syringes soon and might have an order for 200 million by a big Japanese company.

Can someone tell me if they are retractable like OMI and UNI or just the standard needles made cheaper.

EASTLAND MEDICAL SYSTEMS LTD 2003-02-17 ASX-SIGNAL-G

    HOMEX - Perth

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Eastland Medical Systems has received strong early interest in
Portland Surgical Products range of hypodermic needles from one of
the world's largest medical technology companies, Terumo(R)
Corporation of Japan through its Australian branch, Terumo(R)
Australia. Eastland Managing Director, Don O'Sullivan, said Terumo(R)
Australia has entered into negotiations with Eastland for the supply
    of 200 million hypodermic needles.

Eastland Medical Systems Ltd has recently entered into a contract to
acquire Portland Surgical Products Pty Ltd (Portland), Australia's
    only major hypodermic needle manufacturer.

"We believe that interest from a company with such global presence as
Terumo(R) is an indicator of the interest our new needle production
technology is creating," said Mr O'Sullivan. Terumo(R) has annual
sales of around AUS$2.5 billion. The company holds a strong position
in the Australian marketplace for injectable devices and sells
    medical products in 150 countries.

Eastland Medical Systems Ltd, through Portland, late last month
announced it had successfully registered the worldwide patents for
its newly developed needle technology. Don O'Sullivan said the new
technology has the potential to cut the cost of needle production by
20-25%. "Cost savings of this size should provide Eastland with
access to the international marketplace," said Mr O'Sullivan.

"The new technology involves modification to current needle
manufacturing machines that will result in a significant increase in
    their production output.

Tooling designs have been completed and the technology should be in
full production within six months giving the company the ability to
produce in access of 700 million needles per Annum.

The advantages of the new technology not only put Eastland at the
forefront of world needle manufacturing, it gives the company the
advantage of producing the Clip-On special needle at substantial cost
    saving.

The technology has been developed at the Portland/Eastland Research
and Development centre in Portland, Victoria, Portland is
consolidating its position as an innovator and competitive
manufacturer of speciality needles that return a higher margin in the
market place. The acquisition of Portland Surgical Products and the
introduction of the new technology will also ensure that Eastland's
safe injection devices have an assured supply of high quality, low
    cost needles.
