The upcoming electric vehicle revolution is really driven by China and Europe, imo.

In order to avoid a 20 billion euro carbon emission penalty in 2021, the FCA began to accelerate the electrification process.

Abstract: Fiat Chrysler (FCA) will work with energy groups Engie and Enel X to provide electric vehicle charging equipment to customers. The company is seeking to expand its business because it is lagging behind its competitors in electrification.

(Sina Automotive, June 14) According to the British "Financial Times" report, Fiat Chrysler (FCA) will cooperate with energy groups Engie and Enel X to provide electric vehicle charging equipment for customers. The company is seeking to expand its business because it is lagging behind its competitors in electrification.

According to the agreement announced on Friday, FCA dealers will sell Enel X and Engie's household charging piles to customers across Europe. The two companies will also work with FCA to provide customers with public charging facilities.

FCA's cooperation with Enel X will cover Italy and Portugal, and the cooperation with Engie will cover 14 other European countries, including the UK, France and Germany.

The move comes at a time when FCA seeks to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. It is widely believed that FCA is lagging behind competitors in the field of electric vehicles. Analysts estimate that when the EU's new emissions regulations come into force in 2021, the carmaker may face a fine of up to 2 billion euros.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley said: "These partnerships are based on the electrification strategy we announced last year, which is part of our five-year business plan."

In June last year, the FCA released a new five-year plan. According to the plan, FCA will invest 9 billion euros between 2018 and 2022 to develop a series of electrification solutions for its models, while accelerating the autopilot layout. Specifically, by 2021, all Jeep models will be available in an electrified version; by 2022, 10 plug-in hybrids and four pure electric models will be available.

“We are building an ecosystem of partners, products and services from multiple markets to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations for the rapid development of electric vehicles,” said McMinck.

Fiat Chrysler said the "main purpose" of these deals is to support the launch of plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles in the next few years.

In April this year, in order to avoid huge fines, the company agreed to pay Tesla hundreds of millions of euros to purchase carbon credits to offset the carbon dioxide emissions from its cars. (Li Jin)
