With Afterpay now making rapid expansion in the US to follow the meteoric rise Australia, this is reminding me of the early stages of other disruptive technologies when they began to also experience viral growth
Uber - disrupting taxi industry.
AirBnB - disrupting hotel industry
Netflix - disrupted movie rental industry
Paypal - disrupting fund transfer industry
Afterpay - disrupting retail payment industry
Valuations of Afterpay peers are in the tens of billions
The interesting thing is that the US institutions threw billions of investment dollars are these companies as they recognised the potential for these companies to disrupt the status quo prior to earnings traction .
With Afterpay having moved into the US and becoming a household name, it is only a matter of time before the same happens to Afterpay as the institutions clamour for a slice of this pie.
Should all go to plan, Afterpay should supersede $20 billion Atlassian as Australia's great technology export.
A Nasdaq listing or takeover could be coming quicker than we think .
