u.s. blue chips open flat

  1. NEW YORK, Feb 6 (Reuters) - U.S. blue-chip stocks opened near unchanged on Friday after lower-than-expected jobs growth in January punctured some investors' confidence that the U.S. economy's recovery is steaming ahead. Technology stocks opened higher.

    The government reported that 112,000 nonfarm jobs were created in January, below Wall Street's average estimate of 150,000.

    The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI - News) was up 0.3 point, or 0 percent, at 10,495.85. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index (CBOE:^SPX - News) was up 0.85 point, or 0.08 percent, at 1,129.44. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index (NasdaqSC:^IXIC - News) was up 6.56 points, or 0.32 percent, at 2,026.12.
