It's the US that has tariff of 14.5% on Canada lumber, that is a combined anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measure. Targeted subsidies are some times required.
You only have to look as all the shit going down to see Trump's tariffs are just bloody stupid, he seems to not understand that it's the importing country that pays the tariffs. His press secretary seem to double down on that.
USA manufacturing requires many materials and component from around the world so if you put tariffs on that makes it more expensive for the local market and also for the export market.
