    You do realise the the abolition of slavery is a social issue. Social issues are not widely popular with Republicans of the modern era.

    Lincoln was also in favour of foreign immigration

    Lincoln was also in favour of the protections for naturalised citizens.

    Lincoln was also in favour of reducing government debt.

    Lincoln was also in favour of income tax and increasing its reach on rich citizens to pay for Government projects.

    Lincoln would be classed as a Democrat if he were alive today.

    As I said read up on Party Switching.

    The historical Democrats were conservatives, the modern Republicans are conservatives and vice versa, swapping many times over the years.

    Read up on the Southern Strategy of the Republican Party in the '60's. This was a active policy to extend racism against Black's in the South.

    It's a complex issue and best you study it.
