Trump has been very clear

We are going to take Greenland " even if the Greenlanders don't like it"!He does not want an "operating agreement of sorts" but full control. He does not care about Nato as the US is 80% of NATO. He feels the countries in Nato have been "freeloading" and he plans to stop that. If they want to protect themselves from Russia they will have to do it themselves. He feels that Germany for example has developed great social programs that Americans should have but don't because America has been using its resources to protect Europe. Not saying I agree -but that is how it is today, realizing its could change "on a dime"!
In respect to Greenland he will not let a small politically fragmented population dominate and control one of the greatest remaining resources deposits. China has skillfully managed to control of significant deposits of critical minerals ( rare earths, silver etc) and were making significant inroads into Venezuela. Well - that ended promptly as US now controls it. China has also attempted to do that in Greenland offering to construct several airports in that country. This was rejected most likely due to US pressure. As critical industrial resources dwindle ( and they are finite ) and the Arctic Ice melts Greenland will bear the largest depository of strategic critical resources. He sees that as realizes that for there US to retain it's dominant position -it will need them to "make America Great again"!
That is how it is , folks-just a matter of time and intense political activity.
I summary I do personally think that the action of the Government reversing the mining policy and excluding Uranium in retrospect may have been a ppt. event in Trump's views. " You down own it unless you control it"! It's unfortunate they did that and we can see the consequence of that action now!
