    Just for the record, the steel to which you are referring, i.e. 9% nickel steel, suitable for cryogenic temperatures (i.e. ~164oC) is primarily made in Europe. The nickel content keeps the steel more ductile and stops steel becoming brittle in the LNG application.

    There is certainly no compulsion to buy nickel steel from the US, in fact most of the LNG facilities in the US import their nickel steel from Belgium. CB&I for example, (probably the largest tank manufacturer in the world) import their steel from Belgium for the majority of their tank build projects around the world and ship the plate to the Philippines where it is rolled into shape before transporting to destination.
