    or do we just keep paying whatever they fell like charging?

    The global economy is being held to ransom and there still seems to be little interest in trying to remove the obvious constraints on growth.

    So why is renewable energy is still viewed as a fashionable "green" thing? Even worse I have heard it described as a bubble. It seems to me that (leaving aside environmental benefits) having energy sources that keep on providing - for free, without dependence on scarce and costly commodities, might help solve quite a few other problems as well.

    Oh and forget biofuels - that just replaces one kind of dependence with another.
