The resort that Clive forgot

Pay $80 million for a top-class resort, then immediately start running it into the ground. Stop maintenance, close the shops, and cut off utilities so not even owners of timeshares can stay there. The only question is... why? Leading theory in my mind is that he’s waiting for a “friendly” government to do him a solid by rezoning it as residential so he can demolish the lot, subdivide and sell it off to developers. In any case, seems like “unhappy” doesn’t even begin to describe the mood of the locals.

Clive Palmer's former constituents have questioned whether the billionaire can achieve his goal of "Making Australia Great" after running one of the country's best resorts into a state of dilapidation.

Exclusive photos obtained by The New Daily show the extent of the degradation to Palmer Coolum Resort, which was formerly known as the Hyatt Regency Coolum before the magnate bought it for $80 million in 2011.

Once a prestigious golfing resort on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, its rooms have grown mouldy, gathered cobwebs and fallen into general disrepair since it was rebranded in Mr Palmer's signature yellow.

Shareholders in villas at the resort have told The New Daily they are furious about the poor condition of the property and their treatment at the hands of its owner.

Unused accommodation that has not housed guests in years has been boarded over and furniture and mattresses left strewn across floors.

The resort pool, formerly the heart of the luxury holiday escape, has turned green and the grounds have become buried under piles of fallen leaves and twigs, which also fill gutters and cover roofs.
