    NOAA and NASA spell it out clearly: a long term global warming trend continued in 2017. I suggest that if Earth’s temperature is on a warming trend, it cannot be cooling at the same time.

    But everyone would agree that the rate of warming varies from year to year.
    , depending on such factors as the presence or absence of El Niño/La Nina.

    The implication inherent in a pause, is that warming stops for a period of time and resumes.

    Clearly, warming hasn’t stopped. There is no pause.

    If anyone can’t tell the difference between warming stopping and a change in therate of warming, well then don’t bother posting on this thread, wasting other people’s time and exposing yourself as a drongo.
