    Mt. Gibson Shares Rise After China Railway Unit Acquires Stake
    Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of Mt. Gibson Ltd., a Perth- based iron ore producer, rose as much as 7.4 percent after the company said a unit of China Railway Materials & Supplies Corp. bought a 5.9 percent stake.

    Mt. Gibson is also in talks with China Railway, part of China's Ministry of Railways, to help in the construction and provision of equipment for a 85-kilometer (53-mile) railroad, the company said in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange.

    The miner is also planning to buy 35 new rail wagons from China to increase shipping volumes from its Tallering Peak mine in Western Australia, Mt. Gibson said.

    Shares of Mt. Gibson rose as much as 2.5 Australian cents, or 7.4 percent, to 36.5 cents on the exchange. The stock traded at 35.5 cents at 10:44 a.m. Sydney time.
