I think the USA has done a good thing in overthrowing the Venezuelan dictator. But the era of pretending there is “International Law” is over. “International Law” never existed, it was imagined and hoped into existence by fools who knelt at the altar of Globalism.
The world has always been governed by the strong. Rome brought us codified law. Brittania ruled the waves, banned slavery and imposed that ban by force. American can take what it wants because it is strong.
Most of what poses as “International Law” is treaties entered into by sovereign nations which agree that they will be bound and will impose those agreements on their citizens.
States and nations have laws that bind their citizens. Laws are meant to be written, equal and applied by force. Laws deal with the big hitting the small and impose equity. Laws are legitimate because they are imposed by the state where the people can elect or if necessary overthrow the government.
The imaginary “International Law” does not have a police force, nor the legitimacy of a government to define it, nor is it equally applied. The ICC pretends to be a legal force with ornate dress ups. But it only imposes its system on failed dictators of small nations. Its just bullies in robes. I can’t see Trump or Putin in the dock. Nuclear powers are not subject to the ICC.
Nuremburg was merely a Lynch mob with wood paneling to execute some bad guys who lost. I suppose the other side would have done the same if the war went their way.
The world is, and always has been a jungle where the powerful rule. Time to close down the laughable schools of “International Law” and spend the money on drones. The “rules based order” is over the jig is up.
