I caught part of the "Devil's Advocate" on TV last night. I heard a phrase something like "the doctrine of justification for lying by clergy" which I took to be an OK for priests to lie to protect the church ("greater good" etc). Sure, I did a quick Google on it but didn't really nail it down.

I am NOT looking for a "both sides do it" argument. It is often raised on forums that lying to infidels is allowed to protect Islam. I was unaware that there could be (?) a similar provision in Judeo-Christian faiths.

Does this help / hinder / have no effect ?? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. BTW I'm an Anglican, not a Catholic.
