There are more things to consider - eg all the stop start in city traffic. The difference between city cycle and highway cycle for ICE s is huge - over 25%. So your 3% does not cover everything.

There are EREVs with small 1500cc engines that with a flat battery will do over 1000 km with 50 litre tank. The motor of an EREV does not have to be big with a lot of power. My own car has 2 litre turbo, 150kw, does 8-9 litres for 100 km on highway, but 12-13 in the city.

Efficiency doesn't equal long range, it helps but a larger battery and/or fuel tank is responsible for longer range.The point I was making is that if you have an ICE then use the power directly to rotate the wheels, don't bother converting the rotary power to electricity then back to rotary again because you loose energy with the transitions. Yes that does make the ICE more efficient, the best conventional ICE motors convert around 40% of the fuel's energy into usable power whereas a constant load and speed ICE can improve that by about 3%. Regen braking of the EV helps as well but every time you have to convert mechanical power to electric you loose 5% and the same on the way back.

as evidence this table show 4 cars weighing over 2 tons with a petrol range of over 1000km with 60 litres of petrol. Can you find ICE cars that can match that?
