Substitution of andalusite, mullite and synthetic alumina. The Europeans favour andalusite for their refractory use I believe. The Arabs are also entering into the refractory fray and I think they also favour andalusite.
I thought the problem with Chinese bauxite was related to their mining/firing methods rather than a question of quality of the bauxite itself? Same comment applies to their refractory. Their methods are outdated (energy intensive and pollutes excessively) compared to the Europeans and Arabs.
So dynamic in Chinese refractory could change substantially if they shift to andalusite as well imo.
