    A subsidised car industry. Socialist utopia. Worked well in the USSR.

    There are a number of reasons our car industry failed, most notably lack of competitiveness, This was exacerbated by strong industry unions and grandfathered workplace agreements that had line workers earning over $100,000, some older workers up to $150,000. Madness. The idiot, Rudds, idea was to pump money into the industry. More lunacy. Toyota offered the union to renegotiate the WAs,  but in the or infinite wisdom, they voted to do themselves out of a job.

    If you want a scapegoat, just look to the manufacturing unions. Not $1 of taxpayers money should have gone to the industry.

    I fear the militant unions which will invariably control building subs will be the same.
