Poorly educated electorate , polluted by religon , and a political system dominated by plutocrats. They have grown up with the " Manifest Destiny " myth , which interact poorly with reality when the rest of the world starts catching up. My view is that Trump is a consequence of the ingrained stupidity and selfishness of the majority of US citizens , not the cause of it. That makes me very pessimistic that just waiting out his term will make things better. Australia should politely and quietly just make our own way . No need for confrontation . Financially and strategically work towards independence, make alliances with like minded countries. The US can only get worse. cheers
