Hundreds of refugees barred from Australia
More than 500 refugees from Iraq and Syria have been refused entry into Australia over the past year after the Five Eyes intelligence network revealed their names were on an international security watchlist.
At least 30 of the refugees listed were on ASIO's national security terrorism watchlist with an undisclosed number red-flagged as having adverse national security profiles.
The Australian reports the majority of those listed had been found among priority family groups seeking refuge rather than individual single males.
They were seeking refuge in Australia under the government's one-off humanitarian program to resettle 12,000 displaced Syrians fleeing the war, a program launched by former prime minister Tony Abbott in 2015
