Particularly laughable is the idea that the coalition would vote against having a RC that the banks (finally) asked for!
Why did they ask for it? Because finally FINALLY they were fresh out of alternatives !!!!
Do try to get this into your head. The RC was held because the banks capitulated under the weight of their outrageous laxity in lending behaviour. And other banks were starting to view lending to them as risky and therefore the cost of borrowing was going up.
