The heat is now on Labor! Thousands of jobs potentially lost in just one region in NSW. This is a devasting tax that will have no impact on the world environment but will hurt Australia's growth and cost thousands of jobs.

Back to the polls Julia - let the people decide.

THE Gillard government faces an escalating backlash from the states over the planned carbon tax, with NSW warning it could slash the value of Australia's largest electricity generator by $7 billion.

The Australian has learnt that NSW has written to Wayne Swan warning that if the carbon pricing plan mirrors key elements of Kevin Rudd's dumped carbon pollution reduction scheme, the state would have to dramatically write down the value of state-owned power stations.

The letter raises concerns about the impact of the carbon price on the broader NSW economy, and comes as NSW Liberal Premier Barry O'Farrell warned yesterday that the carbon tax could "devastate" employment, saying 13,000 jobs could be lost in the Hunter Valley coalmining region. The developments, which came as thousands attended rallies around the nation in support of putting a price on carbon, threaten to spark a new stoush between the states and the federal Labor government.
