So finally we are to start felling - like now! Some pine into McBrides dam to preserve and some stockpiled a few km out of Kingscote ready for loading onto T-ports ferry and out to the Panamax anchored in deep water.
Meanwhile the final report on Smith Bay approval will hit the minister's desk at the end of this month. Guess we can guess the outcome of that decision with the move to ship out via Kingscotte using T-ports.
So how do the back of the envelope numbers run on this? The best of the burnt logs will get the long suffering shareholders $90US a tonne - lets stick to A$ so $125/tonne (about 1/2 the rate for the good stuff). No approvals for B-doubles so transport will be a longer route to the Kingscote wharf - 60km? at what $11/km so $660 for 30tonne or $22/tonne plus stockpiling near Kingscote, then we need to have a stab at what T-ports will want to set up and loadout for each 3300tonne load running to the Pannamax 12km out - maybe $7000 so $20/tonne. Then there's harvesting - what $30/tonne and roads - forest and highway costs
Net $125-80 so KPT may net $45/tonne. Lets not be too rash so let's call it $20/tonne.
Well at least we are not burning cash and getting some toasted trees off the paddocks.
