Disagree. If you have money you can make more money. Some companies feel that they have to give dividends to keep the sharholders happy and feel that they can't change the % too much from year to year or the shareholders get twitchy. If the Chairman announced that there was no dividend this year would it change public perception? Would you start worrying that the company wasn't doing well? Would you lose confidence in the share? Yes? I would! So, my point is that I believe some companies pay a dividend every year to maintain public confidence. It's a PR exercise. Not because they don't know what else to do with the cash! Any good board would be looking at the next opportunity for growing the business and they need cash for that.
