Pele Broberg on the Trump situation:
    '
    Ostrich strategy' will not work

As long as the Greenlandic government does not have a dialogue with the US, the problems surrounding Donald Trump's statements will continue, says Naleraq chairman Pele Broberg. He calls on Jens-Frederik Nielsen to travel to the US to gain a hearing for Greenlandic views.

    - It is probably a very well-intentioned post that Jens-Frederik Nielsen has made, but it unfortunately illustrates that they still have not pulled themselves together and spoken to the Americans, says Pele Broberg, chairman of Naleraq.

Chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), cannot count on the US president reading a post on Facebook, says the chairman of the opposition party Naleraq, Pele Broberg:

    ATUARUK

    - It is difficult to lead a country by being a keyboard warrior and then burying your head in the sand and hoping that nothing more happens. We have now listened to the same rhetoric for a year, says Pele Broberg, who describes Naalakkersuisut's strategy as an ineffective ostrich strategy:

    - The problem is that as long as you do not have a dialogue with them (the USA, ed.), we will not move forward. This is not mature governance, we are seeing right now, says Pele Broberg.

    - A well-intentioned post

Sermitsiaq has asked Pele Broberg whether he supports the latest statement from Jens-Frederik Nielsen, in which the Naalakkersuisut chairman, among other things, calls Trump's statements about Greenland disrespectful.

Pele Broberg agrees with the part of Jens-Frederik Nielsen's statement that Greenland is not for sale and that the country should belong to the Greenlanders, and he emphasizes that Naleraq is in no way interested in Greenland becoming part of the USA.

But beyond that, there is little support for Jens-Frederik Nielsen's line.

    - It is probably a very well-intentioned post that he has made, but it unfortunately illustrates that people still have not come together and talked to the Americans.

Pele: Jens-Frederik should travel to the USA

Pele Broberg acknowledges that it may seem difficult to get Donald Trump to listen, but he suggests that Jens-Frederik Nielsen travel to the USA as soon as possible to hear the Greenlandic views:

    - I would make sure to come to the USA if I were Jens-Frederik and have a dialogue, no matter how far down the hierarchy it may be, says Pele Broberg and continues:

    - Honestly, how many times has Trump not said anything about European leaders, and yet the leaders of those countries troop up to the USA to meet with the president.

Pele Broberg refers, among other things, to the fact that Jens-Frederik Nielsen made critical statements about Donald Trump during the election campaign, and therefore he must expect that it may be difficult to get the conversation started with the Americans:

    - You have to troop up and get the dialogue started.
