The Scriptures make it clear that each human has an adversary, one that is tireless, ever present and must be guarded against at all times. The Bible is deeply symbolic, metaphoric, allegoric in bringing spiritual concepts into the light of real world experiences.

In trying to bring to the attention of the general populous in an age in which these Scriptures were recorded, a concept of the inner self, the dual nature that each of us possesses, an animalistic, instinctual nature and a spiritual nature, a devise was used to give those who could not grasp such a concept a mental image of an adversary.

The adversary, (devil, satan, demonic possession) is the self, the animalistic, instinctual self that is selfish, materialist, self-centred. When this side of ones dual nature overcomes the spiritual self it is said that the individual is being set upon by satan or the devil.

Now of course over the many years since these Scriptures first saw the light of day, there has been a drift in understanding until some religions today see satan, the devil as a real being rather than a negative aspect of the self. In fact a whole narrative exists as to how this imaginary being came about. It is not dissimilar to many other creation myths, but of course today we understand that the devil is not a real being, it is an aspect of the self that we must constantly be on guard against.

i know this will be totally rejected by you because the devil has become a central and essential aspect of yours and other religious beliefs.
