The golden rule and the concept of reciprocity dates way back before Socrates. I think you will find a religious origin with more research. I know Zoroaster and Confucius to a lesser extent definitely state it in their revelations. These took place long before Socrates.
I wish to assert though that making philosophically revolutionary statements is not what the intention of religion is. One must look at the entirety of what a religion brings to humanity at the period of its most influence. It's not a race to make the best ethical statements first
