Politicians always prefer to make their announcements within a context - a narrative. Its just good storytelling.

Budgets are always the key times when govts get the chance to try and frame such a narrative.

The SA budget is next Thursday and I'd be staggered if the battery storage decision wasn't announced as a key character in that narrative (most likely soon after the budget).

The key themes of energy and jobs (link below) are too strong to be left hanging without announcing such a key component as the battery "winners". We know that CCE has made SA jobs central to their tender bid. I'd be staggered if the SA govt didn't split the decision between 3 or 4 companies.  CCE has to be a front runner to be part of such a mix. Fingers crossed.
