    Is it obvious?

Rudd's failed attempt to seize the leadership last year was his last chance to take the role and have any positive influence on Labors electoral fortunes come September. It is no wonder that he didn't run in March this year.

So what is his ultimate game?

Since he could not gain the support he needed last year (i.e. faceless men remain in control) then his only option is to destroy them at the next election. If they are destroyed then they won't be around to undermine him post September 2013. This looks VERY likely now.

Enter his comments re: returning to the leadership. His stance does not preclude him being raised to the alter after a September 2013 bloodbath. In fact it is clearly within his interests to see a Labor bloodbath allowing him to renew the party in his favour without the faceless men to hinder his rule.

Clever man is Mr Rudd. He will get his reward, although, the cost to the political left will be enormous.

SENTIMENT - Ex Liberal voter (i.e. will not vote for liberal party in Sept 2013) who will never vote Labor ......
