rheumatoid arthritis

  1. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the body's immune system goes haywire and attacks healthy tissue. Sufferers experience pain and swelling and can be debilitated by the disease.

By blocking TNF, the drugs provide relief to rheumatoid arthritis patients and slow the progression of the disease. But because the drugs are interfering with the immune system they can increase the risk of infection in some patients.

Tinkering with the immune system could also increase the risk for cancer. The body's natural defenses play an important role in destroying cancerous cells before they can start growing out of control. Older immunosuppressive drugs that have long been used to combat autoimmune diseases do increase the risk for cancer.

Despite the potential concerns with the new generation of drugs, analyst Girish Tyagi at Thomas Weisel said he expects the FDA in March will once again find that the benefits of the TNF-blockers outweigh the risks.

"The cost-benefit analysis is in favor of using these drugs, in my view," Tyagi said.

    What a joke.
In other words you won't suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis , but you the cancer will kill you.
    Fair trade !!!
