Hi Kipper01. It is a big MAYBE with a low probability for this year. My assumption was that with the right drilling, ion-exchange results and column leach results there could have been the option but its a far stretch.
In saying that on my prior post when comparing RDM to MEI, I was mistaken about the process flow chart. Since then my discussion with Rob has clarified this and that the Sybella project maintains its edge as a heap leach project (being validated by the column leach tests) and all the benefits that come with it.
With Sybella the REE is extracted by heap leach then additionally the "pregnant liquor" extracted from the heap leach is then processed through the added ion-exchange circuit to remove the impurities to add an extra possibly resalable MREC product on top of the REE extracted from the heap leach.
Sybella's process is still significantly cheaper, simpler and scalable when compared to current producers and MEI who's process is more complex and costly. MEI put their clay ore in a large tank (or vat) and mix to remove the REE from the clay. They then need to remove the liquid from the clays using large filter presses (which is not a simple exercise). The pregnant liquor from this process is then cleaned of impurities using a more complex flowsheet than the IX method. From this cleaned liquor a MREC is precipitated.
When Sybella's weak acid heap leach and ion-exchange testing is complete and the evidence is presented, this will open the doors wide open for the scoping study and the eventual recognition of the project.
Yes we have Lynss and Iluka but they are having their own problems and their operations are complex. MEI is recognised but only because its a bit further ahead and in the back yard of several institutional investors that have promoted it and are on the board for several years. MEI doesn't offer a great solution to the wests problem as the Brazilian government is not fully reliable. In my opinion, Sybella will offer a very long term, lowest cost quartile, trusted jurisdiction project which is strategically placed near Mt. Isa with infrastructure and the man power. This year lets hopefully see a scoping study that can be presented and then the project can be built on after that.
Additionally, We still do not know how deep this goes and how far along strike it can be pushed. This could potentially be significantly larger that the 4,8 billion tonnes thus pushing the resource higher and maybe at higher grades
