As a tradesman myself, I don't really recommend doing a trade. Outside of mining and some construction jobs, the money is pathetic.
My wife does admin with no formal skills and earns about $10k less than me. I'm a boilermaker by trade and have a Dip of Project Management.
Admittedly, a trade can be a good stepping stone vs uni students who gain a qualification but have no life experience.
It's just the money that sucks. Especially with the cost of living today. It's no wonder apprenticeship rates are declining.
Get into healthcare to support our aging population.
One of our engineers was a nurse before becoming an engineer. he says he made more money in nursing (horrible hrs though)

whether you are making good money in your trade or not.... tradesmen an tradeswomen are needed.....no more importing jobs from overseas....at the expense of the Australian youth of Today an tomorrow....
Trades people are needed an its a fact of life......
