Read this article this morning. Apologies I do not know how to post the actual article here, only the link. Perhaps someone smarter than me can tell me how to post the actual article.
So, the guts of the article is much more interesting than the headline.
It basically examines periods when the primary vote going to minority parties exceeds 25%, and notes that each of those periods has resulted in political upheaval for the losing major party.
No one would disagree that the Liberal party is on track to implode at the next election if disunity continues. It is safe to assume that the losing major party will be the Liberal party and it will not just fracture after the election, but disintegrate.
It is probable that in the ensuing chaos, the conservative right of the party will prevail. Polling of Liberal membership suggests that the actual Liberal voters behind that group are in fact a minority of Liberal voters. So there is the prospect of a significant majority of former centre Liberal voters, never voting Liberal again.
This campaign to tear Turnbull down at any cost, without even making an effort to win the next election may actually be the end of the Liberal party, making Labor the sole remaining major party. Who will ever beat Labor at any foreseeable election from there?
