Onesteel plans for waste recycling plant

    Hi all,

It's good that OneSteel is looking at increase recycling at it's plant, you just never know, they could be looking at APG technology.

ABC reported that plans have been lodged for a multi million dollar metal waste processing plant at Hexham, as part of OneSteel's push to increase recycling.

OneSteel currently operates a steel recycling plant at Hexham and it wants to build the new facility next door.

Its current plant has recycled more than 2 million tonnes of steel and 100,000 tonnes of other metals since 2005. But it says, as a result of the recycling process, it is left with around 60,000 tonnes of waste which it calls shredder flock.

It said that currently waste generated from metals, such as cars and whitegoods, goes offsite into landfill. Its proposed shredder flock and plastic to oil recycling facility will reduce the amount of waste to landfill by 30%.

The company said that eventually it wants to reduce landfill disposal completely and is identifying markets for other waste streams.

A report said that there would be minimal environmental risks, despite the plant being close to floodprone areas and sensitive wetlands.

The environmental assessment said that any fuel oil product will be low risk, as it would solidify in ambient temperatures and would not travel offsite in floodwater.
