A north Queensland soldier who pleaded guilty to having sex with a 12-year-old girl has been placed on a good behaviour bond.

A child protection group is outraged that the soldier escaped a jail sentence.

Private Martin James Sheather, 19, pleaded guilty to unlawful carnal knowledge.

The Townsville District Court heard three girls aged 12, 13 and 15 had managed to get onto the Lavarack barracks last November despite heightened security measures.

Judge Julie Dick placed Private Sheather on a $200 12-month good behaviour bond and did not record a conviction.

Bravehearts founder Hetty Johnston says she cannot understand the decision.

"We're talking about 12-year-old children... it's just appalling," she said.

The Defence Force is yet to answer the ABC's request for a comment.

People should read all of this article and IMO will conclude that for once justice was done.
