North Dakota rail terminal for Bakken shale oil begins construction
New York (Platts)--20Jul2011/657 pm EDT/2257 GMT

Utah-based Savage Companies Wednesday said it has begun work on a "multi-user rail terminal" served by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in Trenton, North Dakota, to bring delivery of Bakken shale crude oil by rail. Savage CEO Allen Alexander said the rail connection is, "a great option for transporting crude oil, especially given that production is forecasted to exceed current distribution alternatives." The Salt Lake City-based company said the 270-acre site being developed, "will include rail infrastructure as well as planned space for oil field material storage, and receiving capability for frac sand and other materials." It added that, "based on current interest levels, and active negotiations, Savage expects to fully subscribe the initial capacity of the Trenton Railport by fall of this year," with the rail terminal to be operational by the second quarter of 2012. The company, which is a unit of Innovative Supply Chain Solutions, did not provide information on the volume of Bakken crude oil and other materials it will be able to handle. --Robert DiNardo, [email protected] Rating :
