"Australia's high electricity costs stem from reliance on expensive coal and gas" But coal is cheaper than wind and solar with battery.

"aging infrastructure like failing coal plants" You know how to fix aging infrastrucure. When a car gets too old and it costs more to run than replace, what do wise people do? Wait a minute @kingy, I said wise people.

"high network/transmission costs due to geographic spread" Has Australia's geographic spread increased since 2019? Has wind and solar required an increased network/transmission system?

"international gas price volatility (driven by exports)" See below for gas prices.

"and the expensive upfront investment needed for the energy transition", Finally! An admission of guilt. This is the driver.

"all compounded by market structures and retailer markups" These have not changed since 2019.

"While renewables are growing, fossil fuels, especially costly gas, often set the wholesale price, especially when coal plants break down." So fix them!

Build two new coal fired power plants per year (plus 10 to make up for lost time) and we would have 2019 electricity prices and so many other benefits, mainly more plant food, to feed a hungry population. As Lord Gates said, hunger is the bigger problem.

The problem with AI is, more often than not, it gets it wrong. It even warns you. That bit, it gets right!
