Amanda Vanstone, former Liberal Immigration Minister referred to it as "A Special Kind Of Stupidity", almost immediately after it happened.

"It takes a special kind of stupidity to organise a coup that you don’t win, in a sitting week and in a government with a majority of one. If you can’t read the numbers in a small party room how can you read what’s happening out in the real world?"

She went on to say it was simply embarrassing that the coup intended to install a new leader with a 3% preferred PM rating.  It was this stupidity and inability to explain and own their actions that caused voters to see the Liberals as no longer fit to govern.
