FRESHTEL AND OPTUS ARE DEVELOPING FIRST IP-TO-IP NETWORK
FOR THE AUSTRALIAN DOMESTIC MARKET
Sydney, Australia, 14 September 2005: Freshtel Holdings Limited (ASX: FRE) has
partnered with Optus to develop Australia’s first IP to IP (Internet Protocol) network
for the domestic market.
The two companies have collaborated to develop this next generation of
telecommunications networking for the Australian domestic market and drive the
utilisation of IP centric interconnection in the mainstream telecommunications sector.
Together Freshtel and Optus are developing the IP based solution, which utilises IP
technology rather than traditional telecommunication network systems to
interconnect. The IP interconnect network has various benefits and does not require
the extensive maintenance of traditional telecommunications networks.
The major benefits of an IP interconnect network are:

Operational cost savings to telecommunications carriers and providers

Removing setup and maintenance of IP to TDM (Time-division multiplexing) conversion

Scalability – allows cheaper and faster adaptability to users and traffic

The IP interconnect network is directly beneficial to Freshtel’s VoIP (Voice over
