    Churchill had a number faults and made some colossal blunders especially as First Lord of the Admiralty in the Great War.

    Their are few (the bitter and twisted) who would not recognise him as a great leader because such people lead with their hearts as much as their heads. His flaws, and failings, are accepted as just other dimensions of his character.

    Admiral Lord Nelson was a great leader with many faults. His men would have sailed into hell with him. They did at the Nile and Trafalgar.

    Perhaps being a leader in a real crisis is easier.
