MEDIA RELEASE
Diamond Explorer, Elkedra Diamonds NL (ASX Code: EDN), today
(Tuesday) confirmed that drill testing of a number of high priority
targets at the Company's Mt Ultim and Central Craton prospects in the
Altjawarra Craton in the Northern Territory was set to get underway
at the beginning of May, marking the commencement of the 2002 field
season.
Mr Max Cozijn, CEO of Elkedra, said that contractors Gorey and Cole
of Alice Springs had been awarded the contract for the drilling
programs at both areas,
"Together the programs comprise over 31 RC drill holes designed to
test high priority drill targets over pipe- like aeromagnetic
anomalies," Mr Cozijn said. "Of these, five are coincident with
crater-like features, one is coincident with recovery of a micro
diamond and one is coincident with recovery of a high-chrome
chromite."
Elkedra also advised that it had received authorisation from the
Northern Territory Department of Business, Industry and Resources
Development for substantial disturbance over the Company's current
twelve granted tenements.
At the Company's Mt Ultim target area, a sacred site clearance
certificate has been issued by the Aboriginal Areas Protection
Authority (AAPA), ground magnetic surveys have commenced and drill
access tracks are under construction ahead of drill testing of a
total of 6 - 7 anomalies to approximately 100 metres.
Following this, approximately twenty-five anomalies will be drilled
on the Central Craton target area where AAPA sacred site clearance is
nearing completion and negotiations for drill access track
construction are being concluded with road works expected to begin in
mid-May,
Ground magnetic surveys at the Central Craton target are scheduled to
commence immediately following drilling at Mt Ultim.
"Receipt of the necessary Government approvals to begin exploration
on our tenements is an important step forward," Mr Cozijn said.
"Elkedra is commencing the 2002 field season with an aggressive
exploration program and we look forward to releasing a regular flow
of information to shareholders."
Elkedra listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in January 2002.
